Senior Database Engineer
Common Accountabilities

Specific Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:

• Design and create SQL and NoSQL databases for a cloud?based microservices platform, supporting performance, availability, and resilience.
• Partner with Architecture and Application Development teams to design database structures and support reporting, analytics, and data?movement needs (e.g., SSIS, Azure Data Factory).
• Upgrade databases, monitor health using tools such as Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) and Extended Events, and apply improvements including indexing, partitioning, and in?memory options.
• Manage databases across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), collaborating with TechOps on standards, capacity planning, FinOps monitoring, and business continuity (backup/restore validation, Recovery Time Objective (RTO), Recovery Point Objective (RPO), and failover testing).
• Support development teams by guiding database design and investigating issues, identifying root causes, and optimizing performance.

Skills
You will bring:

• Knowledge of major database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server or Azure SQL; certifications are welcome but not required.
• Experience identifying and resolving performance issues using tools such as DPA and Extended Events, and guiding root?cause analysis efforts.
• Experience designing schemas and SQL, modeling data for workloads, writing and optimizing queries, and reviewing database code for maintainability and performance.
• Experience working with TechOps on capacity planning, right?sizing, FinOps cost monitoring, and resilience improvements.
• Ability to support maintenance, upgrades, failover, and backup/restore processes; familiarity with disaster recovery practices and participation in shared on?call rotations when applicable.
• Experience applying data protection practices including encryption, least?privilege access, auditing, and compliance with organizational policies.
