Pl/sql developer

Currently i am working as Associate consultant in ofss..and is looking fora job change. Technologies i had worked upon include pl/sql ,java ,xsl ,xml, html.Being a consultant we are not responsible for actual development/code , we just customize already developed product in accordance to bank needs. Thus , i am not that good in any specific language. My main job responsibility is to customize and implement the banking product .so, yes we also interact with the client.

Now, when i am looking for a job change...generally its this way ki most of the companies require java professionals...and even with 2.5 years of experience i am not that good in java. and also my personal interest is pl/sql but i don't find much of job opportunities for pl/sql on almost every job portal.
Can u please suggest which domain area would be best for me..i meant which job profile should i start searching for which will suit me best

Hello Deepika,
Greetings from interviewChacha. You many not be surprised to know most of face similar situation because the kind of work we do in majority of service based software companies and also in a number of product based companies doent require us to be the master of technology and complete know how. The industries are focused towards solutions and a huge chunk of that solution is developed by tweaking and customizing already developed code. Hence the current scenario.
The question here is what you really want to do. You can either be in technology sector as a developer/coder or can switch to management roles. If development excites you then it's your responsibility to do the research about the technology/language which you would use and get the understanding of:
* How things work
* Major sections/modules in the technology and how they communicate with each other
* Ability to code basic applications from scratch using built in and custom modules
Saying this, you can confidently say that you have worked on these technologies and would answer more confidently in interviews.
This was regarding jack of all trades that you have worked on but you must also have more than average level of competency in some technologies/languages that you feel are core to your development career. For you it's PL/SQL. You must have a thorough understanding on such core technologies.
XML, HTML and other client side scripting are good to have.
Suggestion:
People usually start their coding experience with C/C++ so companies expect good understanding of structured programming language out of any candidate. then comes the OOPs concepts with JAVA, .net, etc. Basic OOps concepts should be clear to all and the language competency and expertise depends on which languages you have worked on in past. Though JAVA is something which is HOT in IT industry and is chosen by majority as their core area so that they have ample opportunities.
With 2.5 years of exp. you are expected to have good expertise in java and related technologies. And if you feel you are not that good then cracking a Java interview would be next to impossible.
Also for a life long career perspective you must pursue your interest and which is PL/SQL. Sadly PL/SQL alone is something which companies don't favor. They expect some expertise in OOPs concept or other scripting languages (like perl, python, PHP, etc.) and they are not that hard to learn.
So you should give a thought of growing your scripting knowledge. Oracle can be a good switching option for you. but there again the work is not limited to PL/SQL. But yes you can make PL/SQL as the base and add sharpen your skills to fit the job role to give a proper shot.
And you want to avoid theses fuzz then you can surely got for an MBA in the worst case. :)

I hope this helps you.

Thanks.
